Deemed a “Healthcare Crisis” by the National Health Service, around 60,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of hospitals each year. That is why at the Unique Group we want to help make the community safer by installing a defibrillator outside our premises for public use.
A community quiz and raffle, organised by the daughter of one of our very own team members, raised the funds needed to install three public defibrillators located around Poole.
Installed by our very own electricians, our public defibrillator can be found and accessed on the outside wall of our Unique House.
A defibrillator is a medical tool that is used to deliver a high-energy, electric shock to the heart through the chest. Its purpose is to help treat those suffering from sudden cardiac arrest, which could mean the difference between life and death.
Following a cardiac arrest, if a defibrillator is used within the first minute, the survival rate can be as high as 90% but drop down to 75% if used within the first 3-5 minutes. Without having access to a defibrillator, the survival rate of cardiac arrest outside of the hospital is just 10.8%. Showing the importance of having defibrillators located around towns and cities.
